In Chapter 2, the Ladies & the Narrator take their annual trip down to Miami hosted by Vikki. In real life, I used to take a similar trip to visit my best-friend’s South Beach home. Vikki lives in the fabulous Fontainebleau hotel. And, they have dinner at Gloria Estefan’s restaurant, Lario’s on Ocean Drive.
I love the Fontainebleau poolside and for lunch. The club, Liv is usually jumping too! Lario’s has been a long favorite of mine ever since I started visiting Miami years ago. Check out these two legendary Miami locations!
Fontainebleau today reinvents the original vision of legendary architect Morris Lapidus – a stage where everyone plays their unique part. At Fontainebleau, striking design, contemporary art, music, fashion and technology merge into a vibrant new kind of guest experience. Guests are invited to enter a world of endless possibilities, where they are free to play, shop, dine, spa, meet or simply relax – however they define a perfect day.
Situated on oceanfront Collins Avenue in the heart of Millionaire’s Row, Fontainebleau Miami Beach is one of the most historically and architecturally significant hotels on Miami Beach. Opened in 1954 and designed by Morris Lapidus, it was the most luxurious hotel on Miami Beach, and is thought to be the most significant building of Lapidus’ career. In 2012, American Institute of Architects granted Fontainebleau the award for the Top Building in Florida, after more than 2.4 million votes cast in the “100 Years. 100 Places.” competition. –
Gloria and Emilio Estefan’s buzzy Cuban fixture overlooking Ocean Drive reopens following an extensive revamp, unveiling a modernized interior that replicates the feel of the ocean, with seashells and marine fossils on the walls, anchored by a massive site-specific sculpture. The menu is also rejuvenated, with signature dishes like lechon asado and arroz con pollo sharing the spotlight with new offerings including chicken vaca frita and bacon-wrapped maduros.
Ladies Who Lunch & Love, the dazzling debut novel from former Essence magazine columnist and NAACP Image Award nominee, Nathan Hale Williams, is the story of four fabulous New York society women navigating life and love while sharing their gay best friend. Not your typical snobs or real housewives, these ladies are down-to-earth, relatable women who know how to have a great time even when confronting life’s challenges. Over the course of a year, our narrator and the ladies go on a journey that forces them to examine their lives and choices, yet enjoying the glamorous side of NYC living like you’ve never before seen.
